About the Co-op Campus Teacher Position

At Dakar Academy Co-op Campuses, qualified teachers invest their time and talents in urban or rural communities across West Africa to serve families with students in elementary or middle school. We are looking for experienced teachers to plan, organize and implement an approved curriculum in a one-room schoolhouse setting. Our ideal candidate will have clear leadership skills, proven teaching abilities, a flexible and independent spirit, and a desire to integrate into urban or rural communities in West Africa.

Co-ops are a model traditionally used where there is a small student population in a missionary community. A rural co-op may only have a handful of students, while more urban co-ops may have over 20 students. Co-op Campus teachers will work with participating families to provide instruction that meets the needs of all students, which may include creating a daily, weekly, and yearly schedule that reflects the unique rhythm of the local community and involving parents of participating families as teachers for specific classes. Co-op teachers may work independently or with one or two other Co-op Campus teachers, depending on the student population at their site.

Established in 1961 as a Christian educational institution and Dakar’s first international school, Dakar Academy’s vision is to produce well-rounded students, prepared for higher-level studies, whose Christian worldview permeates all aspects of their lives. To that end, we strive to care for each child’s academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. Our Co-Op Campus Program, started in 2019, seeks to expand these goals to missionary communities across West Africa.

Position Start: August 2020
